CHAPTER TWO

The First Rebellion

CYRUS DIDN’T DECLARE war.
He didn’t raise a banner or demand a throne.
He just started taking power quietly, strategically, and inevitably.

At the time, the Median Empire was the regional superpower.
They ruled the Persians.
Their king, Astyages, was Cyrus’s grandfather. Maybe.
Whether by blood or boot, the Medes owned Persia.

Cyrus?
Technically just a vassal, the kind of ruler who pays tribute and keeps quiet.

But Cyrus wasn’t building an empire.
He was preparing one.

Astyages sent his army to crush Cyrus early, but his general Harpagus defected and took much of the army with him.

Cyrus had won over Harpagus long before swords ever crossed.

There was no single legendary showdown.
Just a transfer of power.

Cyrus took Ecbatana (the Median capital).
No destruction, no slaughter.
Just absorption.

He called it unity.
He called it liberation.
He took over the Median Empire and rebranded it Persian.

Cyrus didn’t just win.
He replaced an empire and convinced everyone it was for the better.

He kept the infrastructure.
He kept the armies.
He kept the cities.

The only thing he removed?
The name “Median.”

Now it was Persia.
And Cyrus was King of Kings.
