CHAPTER ONE
The Persian Nobody
HE WASN’T BORN in a palace.
He wasn’t born in Babylon, or Susa, or any great city.
He was born in Anshan, a rugged, half-forgotten region on the edge of ancient Elam in southwestern Persia.
No one feared Persia.
No one cared.
At the time, the Medes held the real power. Persia answered to them.
They were subordinates.
Useful highland people, not kings.
And into this world, sometime around 600 BCE, a boy named Cyrus was born.
Not a god.
Not a prophet.
Just Cyrus, son of Cambyses.
And yet…
Within his lifetime, he would be Cyrus the Great,
King of the world.
His early life is a myth buffet.
Some say he was the son of a Median princess.
Others say he was nearly killed as a baby,
like Moses, Sargon, and every other legendary ruler.
Why so many stories?
Because by the time he became powerful, people needed him to be special.
A man who would be king of kings couldn’t just be some mountain kid.
So the myths grew, and Cyrus let them.
Because when power is your goal, origin stories are just tools.
Cyrus was not supposed to rule the world.
He had no empire, no massive army, no legacy.
What he had was ambition and a vision.
While other kings ruled by fear and force, Cyrus saw a different path.
Respect. Strategy. Reputation.
He wouldn’t just take the world.
He would make the world want him to rule it.
And to do that?
He’d have to start by breaking his overlords.
