You're What?

CHAPTER ONE
You're What?
THERE’S A MOMENT when time kind of… stops.
It might’ve happened in the bathroom.
Maybe in your car.
Maybe in the middle of class or work or scrolling your phone.
One second, you’re just a person holding a pregnancy test.
The next?
You're a person with two lines, a racing heart, and a million questions.
You say it out loud.
“I’m pregnant.”
Or someone else does.
“I’m pregnant.”
And the only words that come to mind are the same across the board.
“You’re WHAT?”
First off, whatever you’re feeling right now?
Totally valid.
You might be thrilled.
You might be numb.
You might want to throw up.
You might actually be throwing up (hi, hormones).
This moment is huge.
This moment is weird.
This moment is real.
And before you start spiraling into Google rabbit holes, complicated conversations, or full-blown panic?
Let’s pause.
Let’s breathe.
You’re not the first person to go through this.
And you do not have to figure it all out in the next ten minutes.
If you haven’t told anyone yet, that’s okay.
You get to decide who knows and when.
But you will want someone in your corner.
Whether it’s a parent, partner, best friend, school nurse, cool cousin, or a therapist, this is not something you have to go through solo.
Even if it feels scary.
Even if you’re not ready to say it out loud.
Start small.
You don’t have to give a full TED Talk.
A simple “Can I talk to you about something?” works wonders.
You might be just a few days late.
You might be six weeks in.
You might not even know how far along you are.
Here’s what’s actually happening in your body in the early stages:
The egg’s been fertilized.
It implanted in your uterus.
Hormone levels are changing fast (hello, emotional rollercoaster).
Your body is adjusting, big time.
You might be tired, nauseous, bloated, or weirdly emotional for no reason.
This is the beginning of the beginning.
You don’t need all the answers yet.
Just the next right step.
Take a breath. Seriously. Again.
Schedule an appointment. You’ll want to confirm the pregnancy officially with a doctor or clinic.
Start writing down your questions. You don’t have to know what to ask yet, just catch the ones flying through your brain.
Hydrate. For real. You’ll be doing that a lot.
Get support. Emotional, physical, and financial. You don’t have to do this alone.
This moment?
It might feel like the beginning of the end.
But it’s not.
It’s just the beginning of something entirely new.
And yes, it’s a little terrifying.
And yes, it’s going to be a lot.
But you’ve got this.
And we’ve got you.
