CHAPTER TWO
1879–1914
THE YEAR IS 1879.
A new magazine hits the press.
Zion’s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ’s Presence.
It says Jesus has returned.
Not in fire. Not in glory.
He returned invisibly in 1874.
You didn’t see it.
But it happened.
The clock is now ticking.
The magazine explains, “The Gentile times will end in 1914.”
“Then, the kingdoms of this world will cease.”
“Jehovah’s Kingdom will begin.”
Every issue points to the same date.
1914.
They show charts.
Timelines.
Prophecies.
Even the Great Pyramid of Egypt is used to confirm it.
The measurements are clear.
The timeline is certain.
“The Pyramid speaks the same as the Bible.”
They write, “The time of trouble draws near.”
“1914 is the end of the old order.”
“The saints will be taken to heaven.”
“Earth will become paradise.”
The Watchtower does not doubt.
“The time of harvest has begun.”
“The end is at hand.”
“Prepare yourselves.”
Issue after issue.
Year after year.
“1914. The end. Jehovah’s plan. No delay.”
Then 1914 arrives.
The world still stands.
New light follows.
The end is still coming.
But not like they thought.
