CHAPTER SIX
Patterns in the Carpet
WHEN THE ROOM got too loud,
too bright,
too fast,
Milo looked down.
The carpet was always there.
It had little squares.
Wiggly lines.
Dots that danced if you stared just right.
While everyone else looked ahead,
Milo looked down—and saw a world.
A dragon made from swirls.
A river winding through zigzags.
A spaceship hidden in the stitches.
People said, “Pay attention!”
But Milo was paying attention.
Just not to the same thing.
The carpet didn’t mind.
It just kept whispering stories,
one loop at a time.
