The Friend Who Stayed

SOME KIDS DIDN’T get Milo.
They didn’t understand why he flapped,
why he spun,
why he needed space.

They laughed sometimes.
Or left.
Or both.

But not Jamie.

Jamie stayed.

Jamie asked questions.
Jamie waited when Milo needed quiet.
Jamie noticed when Milo’s eyes were too full of light,
and gently turned the lamp away.

Jamie didn’t try to fix Milo.
Jamie just liked him.

Sometimes, all it takes is one person
to sit next to your storm
without trying to stop the rain.

Jamie did that.
Jamie stayed.
