CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED
Why We Needed Them
THEY WEREN’T REAL. Not technically.
No capes ever flapped in the wind above your city. No webs across your skyline. No Bat-Signal. No Fortress of Solitude. Just ink on paper, pixels on screen, and stories whispered through time.
And yet, they mattered.
Because you were real. And you needed something.
You needed someone who’d leap into the fire when you were too scared. Someone who’d say the thing you couldn’t say. Someone to punch the Nazi. Save the cat. Stop the train. Face the fear. Bear the loss. Make the sacrifice.
You needed proof that anger could be controlled, that pain could be transformed, that power didn’t have to corrupt.
You needed to believe that being different didn’t make you dangerous. That being broken didn’t make you worthless. That being good didn’t make you weak.
They weren’t real. But what they gave us was. The courage. The mirror. The reminder.
That maybe we could be more too.
