What the Bhagavad Gita Actually Says
Chapter Twelve - The Field and the Knower
Section 12 of 17
CHAPTER TWELVE
The Field and the Knower
KRISHNA INTRODUCES A new idea.
The body is the field.
The soul is the knower of the field.
The body is temporary.
It changes.
It’s made of elements.
Earth, water, fire, air, and space.
It grows, breaks down, and dies.
But the knower, the one inside, does not die.
Krishna says:
“I am the Knower in all fields.”
The true self is not the body.
Not the thoughts.
Not the emotions.
It is the witness.
He explains the qualities that lead to knowledge:
Humility.
Nonviolence.
Patience.
Simplicity.
Steadfastness.
Freedom from ego.
Awareness of death.
But beyond even knowledge is knowing Him.
To know Krishna is the highest truth.
To see that all beings come from one source and return to it.
The wise see no separation.
One light, many bodies.
One soul, many names.
This is the vision of truth.
Not theory.
Not ritual.
Real seeing.
And once you see it, you’re free.
