CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Atheists

IF YOU SAY you are an atheist, here’s what that means.

You do not believe in God.
Not a creator.
Not a designer.
Not a higher power.
Not a spirit in the sky watching over your life.

You believe the universe came into existence through natural processes.
Big Bang.
Cosmic expansion.
Star formation.
Planetary physics.
Chemical evolution.

You believe life emerged through evolution.
Random mutation.
Natural selection.
Survival of traits over time.
No direction. No design.
Just biological algorithms playing out over billions of years.

You believe consciousness is a byproduct of the brain.
Not a soul.
Not an eternal spark.
Just neurons firing in meat.
When the brain dies, consciousness ends.

You believe morality doesn’t require religion.
That right and wrong can be grounded in logic, empathy, social contracts, or mutual survival. Not commandments from above.
You don’t need God to know that murder is wrong.
You don’t need Heaven to care about other people.

You believe the burden of proof lies with the one making the claim.
You don’t believe in God for the same reason you don’t believe in Zeus, unicorns, or fairies. Not out of anger, but absence of evidence.

You don’t believe in Hell.
You don’t believe in sin.
You don’t believe in divine punishment, forgiveness, or judgment day.
You believe in laws.
In consequences.
In psychology.
In systems.
In people.

You believe this is your one life.
No second chances.
No karma ledger.
No reincarnation.
Just time, choices, and death.

You might be vocal.
You might be private.
You might spend your time debating, or just living your life without ever thinking about religion again.
You might have walked away from faith.
Or never been in it to begin with.

But if you say the word atheist, you are saying the universe is not being watched.
And that this world is enough.
