CHAPTER SIX

The Tab That Never Closes

ONCE PORN WENT digital, it stopped being something you watched and started being something you navigated.

You didn’t just pick a video and sit through it. You clicked around. You scanned. You skipped. You opened five tabs at once and jumped between them like you were conducting a symphony.

You weren’t trying to enjoy one thing. You were trying to find the perfect thing.
And as soon as you did? You’d close it and look for something better.

That’s what the modern internet did to porn.
It didn’t just make it accessible. It made it endless.
No bottom. No edge. No finish line. Just an infinite hallway of novelty.

This is where it stopped being just about nudity or sex scenes or attraction.
It became about dopamine. Fast, frequent, and totally unregulated.

Your brain was designed to reward novelty. That’s how we survived in the wild.
But this wasn’t the wild. This was porn in high definition, curated by the second, and optimized for escalation.

Suddenly, one image wasn’t enough. One scene wasn’t enough. One tab wasn’t enough.

So you added more.

Megapacks. Torrents. Compilation folders. Niche categories you never even knew existed.
You weren’t looking at porn anymore. You were swimming in it.

And every time you clicked away, it reinforced a pattern.
Not just “I like this” or “that was hot.”
It became: “That wasn’t enough. Something better is out there.”

That’s how escalation works.

You start with curiosity.
You end with videos that would’ve made you uncomfortable a year ago, but now they feel normal.

Not because you’re broken. Not because you’re a freak.
Because the system trains you to level up.

Every skipped scene, every new tab, and every dopamine spike says: “Keep going. Keep scrolling. Keep hunting.”

And so you do.
Even when you’re tired. Even when you don’t want to.
Even when you’re not turned on anymore.

Because now it’s not just about sex.
It’s about the chase. The stimulus. The algorithmic slot machine.

You might close the browser.
You might clear your history.

But that tab?
The one your brain opened?

It never really shuts.
