CHAPTER TWELVE
Food: The Goblin Diet
THE GOBLIN DOESN’T crave nutrients.
He craves stimulation.
And nothing stimulates like food that never existed in nature.
You weren’t built to eat like this.
Nobody was.
The food you’re surrounded by now is so far removed from real ingredients, real hunger, and real reward, it’s practically weaponized.
This isn’t nutrition.
It’s engineered stimulation.
Let’s get one thing straight: the modern food industry isn’t designed to feed you. It’s designed to trigger you. To light up the Goblin. To bypass your natural satiety systems and jack your reward center until your body stops recognizing full.
Salt. Sugar. Fat. Crunch. Soft. Bright. Easy. Loud. Cheap. Colorful.
The Goblin loves it.
And it starts early.
Your childhood was probably soaked in sugar.
Juice boxes. Cereal. Candy disguised as breakfast. Bright boxes with cartoon mascots engineered to get kids hooked before they can spell the word “additive.”
You don’t even realize it’s a loop.
You just know that when you eat this, you feel alive for five seconds.
Fast food chains are the pinnacle. Goblin altars on every corner. Their menus are built for speed, pleasure, and repeat business, not nutrition. Not satisfaction. Just more.
They don’t design food to satisfy you.
They design it to bring you back.
You weren’t hungry. You were triggered.
You weren’t satisfied. You were sedated.
And when the spike wears off? You crash. You feel like shit. So you eat again.
And the Goblin claps.
He loves the loop. He doesn’t want you cooking. That takes too long. He doesn’t want you chewing vegetables. That’s boring. He doesn’t want you eating with others. That’s inefficient.
He wants the hit. The salt. The crunch. The pop. The heat. The dip. The drizzle. The bag. The wrap. The combo. The app.
And the industries noticed.
Big Food doesn’t just follow Goblin logic. It optimizes it. They test products for “bliss points,” the perfect ratio of sugar, salt, and fat to override your normal stop signals. They test the crunch, melt, and mouthfeel down to milliseconds. They tune the colors and shapes because your brain eats with the eyes first. They design flavors that fade at the exact moment your brain starts wanting the next bite.
This isn’t just food.
It’s engineered craving.
And your body can’t keep up.
Because dopamine doesn’t regulate your hunger or fullness. It doesn’t care if you’re full. It doesn’t even know what nutrition is. All it knows is pursue. And if you can get a 1,000-calorie spike of satisfaction from something that costs two dollars and takes no effort?
The Goblin says yes every time.
Even if you hate yourself after.
This is why it’s so hard to “just eat clean.”
You’re not fighting habit. You’re fighting a multi-billion-dollar industrial dopamine factory that knows your buttons better than you do.
And it’s not just fast food.
Frozen meals. Energy drinks. Sports bars. Cereal. Chips. Soda. Restaurant menus. Gas station snacks. Grocery store impulse aisles. “Health” drinks. Vegan junk food. Keto candy. Protein cookies. Sugar-free sugar bombs.
All of it is noise designed to keep the Goblin awake.
All of it is Goblin fuel.
And all of it is legal. Normal. Encouraged.
You live in a food environment that punishes moderation and rewards stimulation.
Because the Goblin isn’t interested in nutrition labels.
He’s interested in fireworks.
And the food system is handing him a match.
