CHAPTER TEN

The Body Rot, the Legend Grows

RASPUTIN WAS FINALLY gone.

Frozen, waterlogged, riddled with bullets, probably still whispering curses under the ice.

The conspirators breathed a sigh of relief. The freak was dead. The nightmare was over. The monarchy would heal.

Except, nope.

It got worse.

Fast.

The Tsarina was devastated. Heartbroken. Furious. She believed the murder was part of a larger anti-royal conspiracy. Nicholas, still oblivious at the front lines, was too stunned to react.

And just weeks later?

The Romanov dynasty collapsed.

Within three months, the Russian Revolution broke wide open. Protesters swarmed the streets. Soldiers mutinied. The government cracked, then shattered. The Tsar abdicated. The empire fell.

And Rasputin became a symbol.

To some, he was the curse that killed the Romanovs.
To others, he was proof the monarchy deserved to die.
To mystics, he was a martyr.
To cynics, a symptom.
To the public, an open wound.

The stories multiplied.

They said he had bewitched the Tsarina. That he was the devil in human skin. That his soul flew out of his mouth as he drowned and landed on the Tsar’s crown.

His penis was allegedly cut off, pickled in a jar, and worshipped by some freaks in Paris. Historians don’t take that seriously, but people wanted to believe it.

Because Rasputin was never just a man.
He was a folk horror. A meme before memes. A cautionary tale in boots.

And after death, he became even harder to kill.

He showed up in songs, novels, movies, conspiracies, and TikToks.
His name became a punchline. A prophecy. A disco anthem.
Ra Ra Rasputin, lover of the Russian queen.

Except it wasn’t funny. Not really.

Because what Rasputin showed the world was terrifyingly simple:

That in moments of crisis, charisma beats logic.
That fear will make powerful people kneel.
That history can turn on a single manipulative psychopath with god eyes and no deodorant.

And that if you don’t take out the infection in time?

It infects everything.
