What Gives Money Value?

GOLD HAS NO nutritional value.
You can’t eat it.
You can’t burn it.
It doesn’t power machines.

A $100 bill costs about 17 cents to produce.
A line of digital code costs nothing at all.

And yet… you’ll kill for it. You’ll work your whole life for it. You’ll measure your worth by it.

So what’s going on?

Every form of money is built on narrative.

“This shiny metal is rare.”
“This bill is backed by the government.”
“This code is decentralized.”
“This receipt is redeemable.”

It’s all language.
It’s all belief.

Money is the most successful shared fiction humans have ever created.

And because we agree on it, it works.

Gold is scarce. So is Bitcoin.
But so are Picassos, concert tickets, and original Pokémon cards.

Scarcity adds value, but doesn’t create it.

Something only becomes money when it’s trusted, transferable, recognized, and accepted.

Scarcity without belief?
It’s just dust in a vault.

Belief is the collective agreement that “this means something.”
Consensus is a shared system of value and exchange (markets, ledgers, trade).
Utility solves a problem: store of value, medium of exchange, and unit of account.
Story says it’s backed by a god, a government, a blockchain, or a brand.

The moment people stop believing?

It crumbles.

That’s why entire currencies can collapse overnight.
And digital coins can 10x in hours.

It’s not supply.
It’s not metal.
It’s meaning.

Value is not in the thing.
Value is in the agreement.

That means:

Value is movable.
Value is programmable.
Value is claimable.

Which also means…

You can build your own economy.
You can define your own currency.
You can decide what’s actually worth trading.

Every form of money is just a container for energy.

Your time.
Your labor.
Your risk.
Your creation.
Your attention.

And when you trade money?

You’re trading life force.

You’re saying:

“Here’s a piece of me. What do you offer in return?”

What gives money value?

You do.

Not the government.
Not the gold.
Not the blockchain.

You.

Your trust, your attention, your labor, and your story.

The system has always known this.

Now you do too.
