What Dianetics Actually Says
Chapter Fourteen - The End Goal: Total Freedom (From Yourself)
Section 15 of 16
CHAPTER FOURTEEN
The End Goal: Total Freedom (From Yourself)
AND HERE WE are.
After hours of couch confessions, tone assessments, birth traumas, repeater drills, group bonding, and shouting at imaginary Freuds in your subconscious basement, it’s time to ask:
What’s the point of all this?
What happens when you finally finish auditing your entire past, dissolve every engram, and ascend the Tone Scale like a soul on an escalator to Godhood?
According to Hubbard?
You achieve Total Freedom.
Which sounds amazing.
And also… completely fake.
But still. Let’s play it out.
You’re Clear now.
But that’s not the final level.
Oh no.
There are still higher possible states. States with names like Operating Thetan and OT Level VIII, where you unlock your true abilities.
Telepathic control of your environment.
Complete immunity to emotional manipulation.
The power to leave your body at will.
Knowledge of the universe’s secrets.
And the ability to emotionally detach from family members who criticize your spiritual journey.
These are real claims, made with real seriousness, by a man who once tried to map the galaxy’s trauma history onto a napkin.
Total Freedom means you are no longer controlled. Not by trauma, not by emotion, not by society.
You’re not a person anymore.
You’re a liberated consciousness with receipts.
Let’s get philosophical for a second.
The most radical part of Dianetics isn’t just that it claims to free you from pain, it claims to free you from the illusion of self that pain created.
That voice in your head?
That’s just engrams talking.
Your fears? Tape recordings.
Your personality? A patchwork of old injuries playing dress-up.
So when all of that’s gone?
Who are you?
Apparently… nothing.
You’re free.
Which is either enlightenment or the spiritual equivalent of deleting system32.
Imagine a world where everyone is Clear.
Where nobody flinches, nobody cries, nobody needs therapy or pills or empathy or nuance.
War? Gone.
Illness? Vanished.
Stupidity? Erased.
An entire planet of rational, high-tone, emotionally sterile geniuses, all nodding politely at one another and filing incident reports on their own trauma.
It’s utopia.
Or a very quiet sci-fi dystopia where no one has emotions anymore. But hey, no one’s coughing either.
That’s the vision.
That’s the dream.
That’s Total Freedom.
Of course, the journey doesn’t end.
You’ll re-read this book.
You’ll audit again.
You’ll attend the group.
You’ll buy the next level.
You’ll chase that final, glittering tier. The one that costs $10,000 and promises to permanently cure gravity.
You’ll never be done.
Because the secret of Total Freedom… is that it always needs more work.
