CHAPTER ELEVEN

Propaganda on the Radio

LET’S BE HONEST:
You don’t like that jingle.
You don’t remember hearing it.
You don’t even use that product.

But still—
You’re walking around the grocery store muttering:

“Ba-da-ba-ba-baaa…”
“I’m lovin’ it.”

Congratulations.
You’ve been sonically colonized.

Here’s the trick:
The brain loves rhythm.
It craves pattern.
And once it finds a loop that hits right?
It’s hooked—forever.

  • Jingles are weaponized melody.
  • National anthems are team-colored war cries.
  • That 4-chord Top 40 structure?
    Emotional engineering.

It’s not just a song.
It’s cultural firmware.

You ever notice how military songs are bangers?

“The Army Goes Rolling Along” slaps harder than expected.
“Anchors Aweigh” is a certified nautical heater.

Marching rhythms.
Major key triumph.
Powerful lyrics about honor, sacrifice, and national identity.

That’s not just patriotism.
That’s a ritual playlist to keep the collective spell running.

Your Microwave Is Watching You (Sorta)

Okay, maybe it’s not watching you.
But it definitely plays the same beep in every house.
The one that goes “Beep-beep-beep…pause…beep.”

Why?

Standardized obedience tone.

Same with:

  • School bells.
  • Car chimes.
  • Store announcements.
  • Your Google Home telling you to “remember to hydrate.”

It’s not surveillance.
It’s soundveillance.

Let’s be real:
Most pop music today isn’t designed for art.
It’s designed for consistency.

  • Same beat.
  • Same hooks.
  • Same themes of heartbreak, money, and glow-ups.
  • Slathered in autotune glaze so it melts in your brain like an M&M.

And that’s fine.

But just know:
You didn’t choose that chorus.
It was downloaded into your body.

“This is the number one hit in the country!”

…because they said it is.
