CHAPTER THIRTEEN

The Empire You Live In

LET’S STOP PRETENDING.

This wasn’t a history lesson.

It was a mirror.

You didn’t just read about Ivan or Stalin or Putin.
You read about the playbook of power.
And here’s the most dangerous truth of all:

It works.

Every time.

Because empires don’t depend on borders or bloodlines anymore.
They depend on:

  • Narrative control
  • Constitutional flexibility
  • Manufactured enemies
  • A public too distracted, too scared, or too loyal to push back

Sound familiar?

Because the trick isn’t to rule with a crown.
It’s to convince the people they chose it.

To make the throne look like a ballot box.
To turn fear into patriotism.
To rewrite the rules in public—and dare anyone to notice.

And you know what?

It doesn’t take much.

One “emergency.”
One “threat.”
One “temporary measure that never ends.”

Just like Rome.
Just like Russia.
Just like anywhere power realizes it can get away with anything, as long as it makes the people feel safe, or chosen, or proud.

We look at Putin and say,

“Thank God we’re not like that.”

But we should be asking:

“How far are we?”

Because the moment we assume we’re immune—

The infection begins.

So yeah.
This book wasn’t about Russia.

It was about recognizing the virus before it mutates again.
Before the next Caesar picks up the pen.
Before the next constitution gets quietly rewritten at midnight.

Because empires don’t start with tanks.

They start with shrugs.

With apathy.
With “It’s not that bad.”
With “It’s just how things work.”

Until one day, you look around…

And realize the empire is already here.

If you don’t know how power survives—
you won’t recognize it when it returns.

And if you don’t believe it can happen where you live?

It already has.
