CHAPTER TWO

Lightsabers and Lap Seats

SHE WAS WEIRD.
Not in a “she listens to indie bands” kind of way, weird in the best way.
Goofy. Silly. Soft around the edges, sharp in the right places.
She snorted when she laughed. I lived for it.

She called me handsome more than anyone ever had, but it wasn’t just about looks.
It felt like she was looking through me, not at me.
Like she liked my insides too.

I once asked if a toy lightsaber could go places no lightsaber should.
She said yes.
Not as a joke.
Not with hesitation.
Just, yes.

That’s what made it real to me.
Not the act. Not the shock value.
The freedom.

We could say anything.
Be anything.
Play COD Zombies while she sat on my lap, because David would’ve been a little bitch about me leaving mid-game.

There was no script.
Just instinct.
