CHAPTER ONE

WELCOME TO THE TRAP

YOU DIDN’T MEAN to walk into a trap this morning.

You just wanted gas. Maybe a quick bite. Maybe a coffee. That’s it.

But the second those doors flew open, you stepped into a machine—a finely tuned, neon-lit, sugar-laced, caffeine-fueled machine designed to keep you barely running and always returning.

Welcome to the gas station.
The convenience store.
The corner trap.
The church of modern slavery.

Every detail in that place has a purpose.
None of it is for your well-being.
All of it is for your submission.

The flicker of fluorescent lights. The sugary tang in the air. The syrup-slicked smell of “food” that’s never actually food. The endless sea of neon cans promising energy—energy you don’t have anymore because they stole it yesterday, and the day before that, and the day before that.

And there you are. Standing in front of the same drink cooler you’ve stood in front of a hundred times. Just like the guy next to you in the safety vest. Just like the woman behind the counter who hasn’t sat down in three hours. Just like the teenage kid loading sugar bombs into the freezer while his brain fries under the hum of corporate death rays.

None of you are villains.
None of you are stupid.
You’re just tired.
And they know it.

That’s why they built this place.

This isn’t a rest stop—it’s a control system.
It’s not a place to refuel—it’s where they burn your time, your will, and your ability to think clearly.

And that’s what makes it genius.

Because it’s open 24 hours.
Because it’s on your route.
Because it’s always there when nothing else is.
Because it makes you feel like you have a choice—when really, you’re just rolling through another behavioral loop with a different flavor of Monster in your hand.

You didn’t mean to walk into a trap this morning.

But it’s not your first time.
And it won’t be your last.
Not unless you learn to see the fangs behind the friendly “Open” sign.

This is chapter one.

We’re only just beginning.
