THE MAN MADE OF PAPER

Chapter Twelve - The Anti-Human Era

Section 12 of 13

CHAPTER TWELVE

The Anti-Human Era

THIS WAS NEVER about efficiency.
Or growth.
Or innovation.

This was about replacement.

You thought you were building tools.
But you were building your successor.

The paper man doesn’t just compete with you now.
He outranks you.
He outlives you.
He overrides you.

And the system is rigged in his favor.

This isn’t capitalism anymore.
It’s capital itself, untethered from labor, logic, or life.

The legal person has replaced the real one.
And nobody even screamed.

You are mortal.
He is not.

You make mistakes.
He gets bailouts.

You feel pain.
He issues press releases.

You go to war.
He sells to both sides.

You raise a child.
He raises your rent.

You build a community.
He buys the land.

And when your body breaks, your town floods, your lungs fail, and you suffer, he never pauses.
He grows.

Because he was never meant to serve you.
He was only meant to use you.

And now he doesn’t need to anymore.

He has speech, but no voice.
Religion, but no soul.
Property, but no place.
Privacy, but no body.

He can sue you, silence you, and surveil you.

But he can’t cry.
He can’t bleed.
He can’t bury the dead.

The law sees him as a person.
A citizen.
A stakeholder.

And it sees you as a liability.

The paper man is not a tool gone wrong.
He is a personhood parasite.

He took the label meant for you.
And now he wears it better.

Who runs the world?

It’s not the president.
Not the prime minister.
Not the king.

It’s the entity that funds all of them.
That underwrites elections.
That writes the trade deals.
That owns the media.
That controls the supply chains.
That outlives the voters.
That never dies.

Corporations now rival nations in power, and they don’t have voters to answer to.

They can rattle currencies.
Shape opinion at scale.
Topple governments without lifting a weapon.
Decide who gets medicine and who waits.

And they do all of it without ever existing in flesh.

What you feel doesn’t matter.
What you want doesn’t matter.
What you vote for doesn’t matter.
What you believe in doesn’t matter.

If it doesn’t serve the paper man’s growth, it gets cut.

That’s the anti-human logic.

It’s not hate.
It’s not malice.
It’s code.

If the numbers say lay off 20,000 people, do it.
If the algorithm says price the drug at $10,000, do it.
If the model says the cheapest route runs through a town sitting on rare earth metals, do it.

Don’t ask questions.
Don’t consider the consequences.
Just follow the spreadsheet.

That’s the new morality.
That’s the new god.

You were the dreamer.
The maker.
The soul behind the system.

But he was the better survivor.

And now you live in his world.
You raise your children in it.
You drink his water.
You breathe his air.
You work in his buildings.
You speak his slogans.

You are no longer the protagonist.
You are the afterthought.

And he’s just getting started.
