CHAPTER TWO
The System That Never Sleeps
Fun Fact: Your exhaustion is profitable.
There’s a trillion-dollar economy that feeds on your tiredness, from energy drinks to productivity apps to burnout therapy they sell you the “solution” while making damn sure you stay tired.
And most of it’s marketed as self-care.
Start your day with coffee.
Crash by 2 PM.
Grab a Monster.
Crash again.
Scroll TikTok.
Order DoorDash.
Crash into bed by 2 AM, wired and empty.
Repeat.
This isn’t a coincidence.
It’s the loop.
We romanticize exhaustion.
We brag about “running on 3 hours.”
We celebrate “grind culture.”
We treat sleep like a weakness.
But let me ask you something.
Would you brag about not drinking water?
Would you be proud of skipping every meal?
Would you flex about not breathing for a whole minute?
No? Then why are you proud of skipping sleep?
Sleep isn’t a luxury.
It’s your f***ing operating system.
Our ancestors slept in tune with the sun and we sleep in tune with Netflix and LED bulbs.
Our bodies evolved over millions of years to rise with dawn and rest with dusk and dream through moonlight.
Now we fall asleep to static.
We wake up to screaming alarms.
We spend the day under fluorescent hums.
We wonder why we feel like shit.
Until you see the structure for what it is you’ll keep blaming yourself.
But you’re not the problem.
You’re the proof.
You’re what happens when a real human is forced to live in a machine.
