CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Valley of the Kings and Thieves
THEY BURIED RAMSES like a god.
But Egypt couldn’t protect him.
His tomb, KV7 in the Valley of the Kings, was carved deep into the rock just across from the tomb of his sons. It was grand, complex, covered in hieroglyphs, filled with magic spells, sacred symbols, and star maps to guide him through the afterlife. It was sealed with ceremony and prayers meant to last forever.
Forever didn’t last long.
Grave robbers came.
They took the gold.
Shattered the canopic jars.
Yanked open the coffin.
And tossed his body around like it was just another mummy.
Then came the floodwaters.
Tomb walls collapsed.
Paint peeled off.
The valley shifted.
Sand swallowed the entrance.
Ramses disappeared.
His body was moved.
Then moved again.
Then moved again.
Priests trying to protect what was left kept transferring him to different hiding places. One tomb to another. Wrapped, unwrapped, and rewrapped. They re-labeled his coffin, tried to hide the damage, and tried to keep the legend intact. It worked for a while.
But then Egypt fell.
The New Kingdom crumbled.
The gods went silent.
The tombs were lost.
Ramses, the god-king of Egypt, ended up in a bundle of rags, stuffed into a pit, surrounded by other displaced royals. A storage unit of broken immortals.
And there he stayed.
Waiting.
Until someone opened the door again.
