CHAPTER SIX

You Can Rewrite the Story

MERIDA WASN’T BROKEN.
She just didn’t want to follow their script.

The dress.
The suitor.
The docile little “princess” act.
No thanks.

She could shoot a bullseye while riding a horse.
She could climb cliffs barefoot.
She could outwit an ancient curse and still make it home by dinner.

But no one cared about that.
They just wanted her to sit still and smile.

So she snapped the bowstring — literally and symbolically — and tried to rewrite her fate.
It went sideways. As it usually does when magic bears get involved.
But that’s part of it.

Change isn’t clean.
Growth is messy.
The whole kingdom might turn into a forest full of regret before you figure it out.

But here’s the thing: Merida didn’t fix everything by becoming someone else.
She fixed it by helping everyone else see her clearly.

And maybe that’s the lesson.

You don’t need to become a different person to be loved.
You just need to stay brave enough to be yourself… loud enough, long enough, real enough…
until the world has no choice but to adjust.

So no, Merida didn’t want a prince.
She wanted her own story.

Turns out, she was the author all along.
