Chapter Twelve - Free Love

CHAPTER TWELVE
Free Love
NOT “FREE LOVE” as in the 1960s slogan.
Not group sex or flower crowns or rebellion for its own sake.
We’re talking about love that is actually free.
Free from ownership.
Free from shame.
Free from the need to be approved, defined, or proven.
Love that isn’t performing anything.
Isn’t earning anything.
Isn’t trapped in anything.
Love that exists because it wants to, not because it has to.
You don’t need a license to love someone.
You don’t need to follow a script to make it real.
You don’t need to be the “right” gender, or the “right” age, or the “right” role.
You don’t need to be fixed first.
You don’t need to be perfect.
You don’t need to be worthy.
You just need to show up honestly and be met with the same.
That’s it.
Real love doesn’t ask to own you.
It doesn’t cage you in fear or bind you to guilt.
It lets you grow.
It lets you shift.
It lets you become.
And if it ends, that doesn’t mean it failed.
Sometimes, the freest love is the kind that lets go.
Without resentment,
without punishment,
without rewriting the past as a mistake.
Free love can feel terrifying.
It doesn’t promise security.
It doesn’t guarantee forever.
It doesn’t follow a path you can explain to your parents.
But it’s real.
And it’s yours.
Not handed down.
Not locked up.
Not assigned or certified or sold back to you in a box.
Just yours.
After everything, the history, the shame, the roles, and the laws, we end where we started.
Back before love had a name.
Back when it was instinct.
Connection.
Care.
But now we know what they tried to do to it.
Now we can choose something different.
Not because it’s new, but because it’s finally ours.
