CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
Darkseid: Order Without Love
DARKSEID DOESN’T WANT to destroy the universe. He wants to fix it.
That’s what makes him different from every other tyrant. He does not see himself as a conqueror. He sees himself as a solution. To him, free will is the disease. Choice leads to chaos. Emotion leads to failure. Individuality leads to war. If every living thing simply submitted, there would be no pain.
And so, he offers a gift: anti-life.
The Anti-Life Equation isn’t a weapon. It’s an answer. It strips away doubt, desire, fear, and freedom. It makes people obedient, not because they are forced to be, but because they no longer want anything else. Darkseid doesn’t just want you to obey. He wants you to agree.
That’s the horror.
Darkseid rules through inevitability. He doesn’t raise his voice. He doesn’t rant. He doesn’t need to chase you. He waits. He invades your mind. He breaks your will. He bends the laws of nature around his presence. He is gravity made political. He is hierarchy in flesh.
He calls it peace.
He means it.
Apokolips, his world, is not a kingdom. It is a machine. Everything functions according to his vision. There is no love, only loyalty. There is no trust, only submission. Every citizen is a cog, stripped of autonomy and taught to revere the one who broke them.
This is the future Darkseid wants for everyone.
He sees Superman as defiance. He sees Batman as interference. He sees all forms of resistance as noise to be silenced. Not out of anger, but out of principle. You don’t argue with gravity. You don’t negotiate with inevitability. You accept it. That is what he wants from the universe. Not worship, not fear, but surrender.
Darkseid is not chaos. He is order taken to its coldest extreme.
He believes freedom is a mistake, and that love is a weakness. He doesn’t need you to die. He only needs you to stop believing your soul was ever yours to begin with.
