CHAPTER SEVENTY-TWO
Human Torch: Burn First, Think Later
JOHNNY STORM CAUGHT fire when he was just a kid.
He never really stopped burning.
He was the youngest on that ship. Just a teenager looking for a thrill. One minute he was goofing off in a spacecraft, the next he was a living flamethrower with a sky-high ego and a fan club. It’s easy to see him as the hothead. The comic relief. The irresponsible one. But there’s more going on under the flame.
He acts like nothing bothers him because everything does. He’s loud because he’s scared of silence. He flies fast so no one sees when he’s falling. And when he crashes, it hurts. But he'll joke through it. That’s his armor.
He was never supposed to be a superhero. He just wanted to live a life of fast cars and fame. But the second his DNA was rewritten, everything got serious. Too serious. Reed became a scientist-god. Sue became the emotional shield. Ben became the Thing. And Johnny? He became the punchline with a flamethrower.
Except it’s not funny when he’s burning alive every time he ignites. It’s not a joke when he loses control and goes nova, risking everyone around him just to feel useful.
He says dumb stuff, pulls pranks, sleeps around, and makes headlines because that’s easier than saying, “I don’t know who I’m supposed to be now.”
And despite all that, he’s loyal. He’ll fight to the death for his team, even if they treat him like the kid brother. He’ll go nova to stop a threat even if it means not coming back. Because deep down, Johnny Storm doesn’t want to be the Human Torch. He just wants to be someone who matters.
And he does.
He’s not the smartest. Not the strongest.
But when it’s time to throw down, Johnny lights the way.
