CHAPTER SEVENTY-SIX
Silver Surfer: Herald of Regret
NORRIN RADD MADE a deal with a god. Not out of ambition, but out of desperation.
His planet, Zenn-La, was perfect. Peaceful, advanced, and untouched by war. But when Galactus arrived, a cosmic hunger with no conscience, Norrin offered himself. He would become the Herald. The scout. The one who finds planets for his master to consume. In return, Zenn-La would be spared.
Galactus agreed. And so Norrin was stripped of his name, his face, and his place in the universe. What remained was the Silver Surfer. A metal-skinned ghost, riding a board through galaxies, pointing the finger at worlds that didn’t deserve to die.
At first, he told himself it was survival. That he was only obeying. That Galactus couldn’t be stopped. But over time, the guilt took shape. Billions dead. Civilizations erased. And all of it passed through him first.
The power cosmic didn’t make him a god. It made him a witness.
Eventually, he rebelled. He broke free. But freedom didn’t mean peace. It meant wandering. Not just space, but his own conscience. He helps where he can, defends the weak, and battles tyrants, but there’s always the weight. Not of the board beneath him, but of the lives behind him.
Silver Surfer isn’t a superhero. He’s a penitent. A warning. A reminder that even the noblest intentions can damn you if you serve the wrong cause. He gave up everything to save one world, and in doing so, he helped destroy a thousand.
Now, he rides alone. Not because he has to, but because he should.
Because some sins are too big for forgiveness.
