CHAPTER SEVENTY
Mr. Fantastic: The Man Who Stretched Too Far
REED RICHARDS IS the smartest man in the Marvel Universe.
And that's exactly the problem.
His brain is a machine with no off switch. He sees the universe like a puzzle he hasn’t solved yet.Aatoms, dimensions, timelines, everything folded into equations only he can understand. But in chasing knowledge, he leaves humanity behind.
He wanted to explore space. He wanted to push the limits of science. He wanted to do something extraordinary. So he built a ship, broke the rules, and took his friends along for the ride. Cosmic rays rewrote their DNA. And in that moment, Reed Richards became something else. His body stretched, but it was just a reflection of what was already happening. He was bending around everything, warping himself to fit whatever was needed.
So he became Mr. Fantastic.
He’s saved the world more times than anyone can count, built machines that defy reality, and solved problems no one else could even understand. But at what cost?
He’s a husband who forgets to come home. A father who doesn’t know how to stop running simulations. A friend who treats danger like data. Every time someone begs him to just be there, Reed’s already somewhere else trying to stop the next catastrophe.
And yeah, he means well. He genuinely thinks he’s doing the right thing. But it’s hard to love a man who keeps trying to save the universe instead of calling you back.
Sometimes his genius is the only thing that saves the world.
Other times, it’s the reason it needed saving.
Reed Richards always has a plan. He always has a backup plan. And a contingency for that backup. But the one thing he never really planned for, was how to be human.
He stretches, and stretches, and stretches.
But he can’t hold it all together forever.
