CHAPTER FIFTEEN

The Bayer Blueprint

THIS ISN’T JUST a story about Bayer.
It’s a story about how companies survive everything.

War. Scandal. Collapse. Trial. Protest.
Doesn’t matter.

If the structure is just right, if the revenue is strong, the assets are diversified, and the liabilities are buried deep enough, a corporation can outlast almost anything.

Bayer figured that out early.

It didn’t matter if a product was addictive, controversial, or morally compromised. If it could be patented, scaled, and defended in court, it could make money. And if the backlash came later, there was always a playbook: deny, settle, rebrand, expand.

And it worked.

From coal tar to cancer drugs. From Auschwitz to aspirin. From heroin to hormones to herbicides. Bayer kept moving. Kept building. Kept getting bigger. And every time it looked like the past might catch up, it didn’t.

That’s the blueprint.

You don’t need to be liked.
You don’t need to be clean.
You just need to be necessary.

Make something people can’t live without.
Buy the company that threatens you.
Control the product and the problem.

If you can do that, you don’t have to run from your history.

You can just outlive it.
